[SMM Analysis: China's cobalt hydrometallurgy intermediate product imports pulled back slightly in May 2025] In May 2025, China's imports of cobalt hydrometallurgy intermediate products reached approximately 49,487 mt, down 7% MoM and 6% YoY. Among them, imports from the DRC amounted to approximately 48,493 mt, down 8% MoM and 7% YoY.

In May 2025, China's imports of cobalt hydrometallurgy intermediate products were approximately 49,487 mt, down 7% MoM and 6% YoY. Imports from the DRC accounted for approximately 48,493 mt, down 8% MoM and 7% YoY. In May 2025, the average import price of unwrought cobalt in China was $6,749/mt, up 21.89% MoM. From January to May 2025, China's cumulative imports reached 248,287 mt, representing a cumulative YoY decrease of 7.09%.

Taisen Tech to Build $15M Spent Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant in Hunan, China

Recently, a relevant website published the first public notice for the environmental impact assessment of the "Taisen Technology Annual Recycling and Processing of 50,000 Tons of Spent Lithium-Ion Batteries (Phase I: 20,000 Tons/Year)." According to the notice, the total investment is 100 million yuan, and the construction site is located in Anhua County, Yiyang City, Hunan Province. It will construct a comprehensive utilization production line for spent lithium-ion batteries, mainly including battery depackaging, pyrolysis, crushing, and sorting. The recycling and processing capacity for this evaluation project is 20,000 tons/year.
